With all his gambling, it’s a wonder his father hasn’t won the lottery yet, Joey mulls sourly.

He tip-toes though the sitting area, keen to not wake his father, picking up bottles, empty food containers, and losing tickets, all to throw in the trash.

Then again, thinks Joey, what would his father do if he won the lottery? Probably gamble more, probably drink more… maybe, but not likely, let his children have a piece of the fortune.

What would he do with the winnings?

That’s an easy question for Joey.

One, pay off all his dad’s debt; two, get the hell out of here, live on his own, and become his own man.

That’s what he wants more than anything.

But in the end, it’s all just wishful thinking.

Sometimes he thinks that Abed could be an alien.

(And it’s not just because Abed pulled that “prank” on him pretending to be one. (Psh, like he believed that!) (No, really!))

(And it’s also not because Abed identities with The Inspector (who’s an alien).)

It’s mostly because that, despite the fact that everything Abed knows and feels is filtered through media, it can be so spot on that he’s just got to have special abilities that people (you know, plain old humans) don’t have.

It’s super human. Over human? Wait.
It’s like, he’s got an outsider’s perspective because he’s an outsider? (If he thinks about it too hard, his head gets a bit hurty.)

But in the end it, he guesses it doesn’t matter if Abed is an alien or not, as long as he’s Troy’s best friend.

Usually he doesn’t have a lie-in (his military training and PTSD broke that habit), but lots of things in John’s life are different now that he lives at 221B and that Sherlock Holmes has turned from “just a flatmate” to the more nebulous “live-in boyfriend”.

Sherlock, on the other hand, routinely has them; normally, if he doesn’t have a case (“What’s the point, John?”) but especially after a difficult one. As much as he detests it, Sherlock needs to recharge his batteries every now and then.

John finds that he likes those difficult, exhausting cases just as much as Sherlock does. Not only are they exciting and exhilarating, but John also enjoys how much they wear out Sherlock. (He can be less of an arse when he’s knackered.)

He especially likes the next morning, when he can have a lie-in and enjoy watching Sherlock sleeping next to him.
