Me and my shipping
I’ve been noticed that I love Glee. Like, I really, really love this show and its fandom.
And I’m sad to say, at some points I love it more than Yu-Gi-Oh. (Blasphemy!)
I don’t know if it’s that it’s “new” or that it’s basically all just shipping or what. (Also, I like the music. Hehe.)
I guess what my point is… that it’s different from all my past old fandoms.
I like shipping a lot and none of my past fandoms (or, at the ones that I was really, really into) weren’t about shipping. Any shipping was ALL buttsex subtext.
To put in in perspective, here are my past fandoms:
1995 - Star Wars (I read all of the “published fanfiction”. I was obsessed. Han/Leia ftw! Also Luke/Callista. Mara, blah. Though I do like her…)
1998 - Pokemon, DBZ, Sailor Moon (I actually RPed SM back in the day.)
2000 - Gundam Wing (My first yaoi pairing was 1x2), and also some Satoshi/Shigeru (Ash/Gary) for Pokemon after I got really into yaoi
2001/2002-ish - Yu-Gi-Oh
2003 - 2006 - PUPPYSHIPPING BIG TIME
2007 - 2008 - I sort of fell off side of earth with regards to fandom, but shipped puppyshipping extensively in my mind
2009 - Present - Still ship puppyshipping and now I ship Glee
… So if you look at it, I’ve been shipping YGO for 10 years.
TEN YEARS. WTF.
My YGO OTP is puppyshipping.
I will go down with this ship. No joke.
Maybe it’s because I’ve shipped it so long.
And as much as I love Seto/Joey, I hate that I’m so bull-headed about this pairing.
I can see how other pairings would work, but OMG. I get literally sick thinking of them. For serious. UGH.
Pair up anyone with Seto or Joey, I go all Kurt-listening-to-Burt-trying-to-do-“the Talk” (i.e., sticking my fingers in my ears and go “LALALALALALA”).
Because of this, I don’t enjoy YGO to the full capacity as I do Glee.
If you give me any pairing in Glee (that does not involve an adult with a high schooler (that is under 18; well, post-canon where said student is legal, I’m okay with it.)), I’d probably be open to it.
I do think about end game ships (cough, Kurtofsky, Santittany, Finchel, cough), but they’re not important. I can deal if they don’t get together. (TIKE DOES NOT COUNT. THEY MUST BE TOGETHER FOREVAR.)
Another thing about Glee is that it’s okay to be “out” with the shipping (especially gay shipping), because it’s “canon” per say. Kurt is gay, Blaine is gay, Dave is gay, so it’s okay to ship them together.
In YGO, there are no canon pairings - het or slash. (Except Pegasus and his wife. But that’s just gross. *shudder*) (Though, I don’t know about the new series?)
I have guilt for shipping people because I always think “well, it’s not canon, so why are you doing that?”.
As for why I am so bull-headed for puppyshipping… I don’t know. I think it’s one of those “first OTPs” that you just don’t mess with. Like, it’s so ingrained in your mind that it can’t change. (Like how they say that the music you listen to in your 20s is the music you listen to forever.)
Because of this I can see how all these Gleeks get all srs bsn about their pairings. I’m assuming this is their first fandom and they get kind of bull-headed about the whole thing, just like I am bull-headed about puppyshipping.
However, I don’t condone the hate or the (sort of) inability to distinguish between shipping the characters and the actors/actresses. I’m more for “live and let live” sort of approach. If you don’t like it, unfollow the people who are crazy about that pairing and don’t troll the tags for pairing you don’t like.
STOP THE HATE!
So yeah. Those are my thoughts on my ships.
tl;dr: I love Glee shipping more than YGO shipping, but I will go down with my puppyshipping ship.
